Social Security Disability Insurance FAQs
At Helzer Cromar & Schneider, we pride ourselves on serving as vital information sources to clients who come to us for help with disability applications. Questions often include:
How long does the process take?
Approximately, two to four months for a decision on an application. Reconsideration of an application takes about the same amount of time. The time it takes to request a hearing and having it granted takes about a year. We take steps to shorten that length of time and expedite the entire process.

Can I receive Social Security Disability benefits if I am receiving VA benefits?
You can if you qualify for SSD benefits, but not SSI. If you retired early because of a physical or mental condition that prevented you from working, you can apply for both SSD and retirement benefits. Being found disabled will convert retirement benefits to disability and allow you to secure the full retirement rate.
