Social Security Hearings and Appeals

Helping Clients Throughout an Oregon Social Security Claims Process

Months can go by following an application for Social Security Disability (SSD) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. Between the first denial and the request for reconsideration, more time elapses only to receive another denial of a valid claim. While discouraging, your options are numerous in securing the benefits you deserve.

At Helzer Cromar & Schneider, our SSD and SSI claims lawyers represent clients from the initial application to the final disposition of their benefits claim. That includes complex hearings before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ or judge), and appealing an unfavorable decision received at the hearing level to the Appeals' Council and Federal District Courts.

If you need representation at a hearing or trial over a denied Social Security Disability claim, contact us at 503-608-7851 or toll free at 866-930-2812.

In a hearing, the claim goes before an Administrative Law Judge. we attend to every detail in building strong arguments based on facts, applicable case law, statutes and regulations and present witnesses or witness statements. Following a thorough review of your file, we secure medical records that support your claim to fill in any gaps that exist. When appearing before the judge, we present evidence, take witness testimony and answer any questions to support the validity of the claim. From there, we await a decision.

If we receive a denial, we immediately proceed to the Social Security Appeals Council. The process is similar to that of the hearing. The potential outcomes involve acceptance, denial or an order to send the case back to the Administrative Law Judge.

The final step is to file a lawsuit in Federal District Court. Multiple denials of a valid claim must be brought to the attention of a judge. Standing up for disabled clients throughout the entire process often involves continuing to build and present your case based on the facts.
