What are Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits?
Let us provide you with the facts on SSI and SSD and start the complex process. Contact our Beaverton law office at 503-608-7851 or toll free at 866-930-2812.
Social Security Disability Insurance is a payroll tax-funded federal insurance program managed by the Social Security Administration. This is based on wages you have earned, because you paid into Social Security from these wages earned. Social Security Disability (SSD) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) were established to provide income for those physically or mentally restricted in their ability to secure employment or keep a job due to a notable disability. SSD and SSI provide temporary help for individuals with certain disabilities while others require permanent assistance.
SSI is not based on what one paid in through income wages. If the individual meets the standard of a legitimate disability set forth by the Social Security Administration, he or she can receive SSI. Individuals receiving SSI must be at and stay below a mandated minimum income level to receive their supplemental benefits.
While research and due diligence can get you the information you need, an experienced attorney at our firm can help you with the process, from the initial application to the final outcome of your case.
